In 2010, he became the first Albany journalist to win an Emmy when he was named Outstanding News Anchor by the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He won an Emmy for Outstanding News Special the following year for his role in "Coastal Crisis," a live broadcast from the coast on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. His other awards include Best News Reporter/Anchor from the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association and Best Male Anchor from the National Academy of Television Journalists.

Ben has volunteered for numerous charities through the years. He currently delivers Meals on Wheels and serves on the board of the Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross.
