Tech freshman quarterback wins ACC rookie of week

October 6, 2008

Atlanta - Georgia Tech freshman quarterback Jaybo Shaw is the Atlantic Coast Conference's rookie of the week.

Shaw threw for 230 yards in the Yellow Jackets 27-0 win over Duke.

That is the most passing yards for any quarterback in his first career start in Yellow Jacket history.

Jaybo Shaw started for an injured Josh Nesbitt, who is not expected to return to the lineup until next week's Clemson game.

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson says his freshman quarterback did make some mistakes on Saturday but that is expected from young players.

Paul Johnson said "I thought he played good. I am proud of him. There are not a lot of teams guys that is going to take a guy who showed up in August and go out there and have 480 something yards and 27 points now."

Jaybo Shaw said "The offense believes in the defense and the defense believes in the offense. We all believe in the special teams. When you got that going, it is hard to not do things right."

Georgia Tech plays Gardner Webb Saturday at 3-30. The game is not on television.

The Clemson game on October 18th will kick at 12:00 pm in Clemson and will be televised on the ESPN networks.
