ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany elementary teacher was surprised with a big check Wednesday. This morning, Magnolia teacher Susan Simmons was presented a $1,000 check by Sam's Club.
Teachers and students at the school nominated her for the Walmart teacher of the year. They say she goes above and beyond what is required of her, and provides clothes and toothbrushes for students in need.
Simmons said, "I honestly don't feel like I do any more than my contemporaries here at the school do. You just put your heart out there everyday and just try and make a difference in these children's lives. That's what we're all doing everyday."
The check will go toward programs at the school. Simmons also received a personal gift card.
