Albany-Burns placed in the top five of this year's Miss Georgia Pageant. She also won the swimsuit competition.

She was chosen to paticipate in the National Sweetheart Pageant along with representatives from each state, who placed in the top five of their state's pageant.

Joan-Marie will sing a classical comedy called, "Art is Calling for Me." She says this pageant will give her more experience. 

She says, "The number one function for this pageant will be exposure for me on the national level that will help me even to do better. "

 Burns is Miss Historic Plains 2002, and she is currently working towards obtaining a master's degree in Public Administration.
