Principals required to teach

August 23, 2002

Principals are getting out of the office and spending more time in the classroom. It's one part of the education reform bill designed to get school administrators more involved with their students.

Coffee County principal Wendell Stone was filling in teaching some social studies to Westside Elementary students this week. He says it helps keep school officials in tune with what challenges teachers are facing on a daily basis.

It's also helping many Georgia school systems face a shortage of teachers and subsitutes.
