Roberts College Football Picks December 6, 2008

Not quite ten wins but 9-4 is still a decent record considering I went out on a limb with Maryland and FSU and got burned. Georgia also burned me with their second half collapse after dominating the first half against Georgia Tech.  Give all the credit to Paul Johnson.  He will not let his players lose a game.

Here we are with championship Saturday for several conferences.  We start with the big game Florida vs Alabama.  Everyone thinks the Gators are going to run all over the #1 Tide.   I disagree.    Florida's offense has been rolling because their offensive line has been playing great football.  That is from Urban Meyer and not me.   On Saturday they will face an Alabama team that has the best offensive and defensive lines in the nation and the Gators probably won't have Percy Harvin.  His loss really hurt the Gators red-zone offense last week because UF could have hung 60 on FSU.   After Harvin went out, Gators scored on two TD passes and did get a cheap td late on the option in the 4th quarter.  In the third, FSU held UF to a field goal and on downs inside the ten.  Alabama is very good team and their offensive line will control the clock and their defensive line (Terrence Cody) will tie up the Gators o-line allowing the linebackers and safeties to stop the Gators running game.  Alabama  23-21

ACC  Boston College vs Virginia Tech:  Eagles get a rematch with a Hokies team that is just doing enough to win.  This should be a defensive game but without QB Chris Crane I think the advantage is to the Hokies... Virginia Tech 13-10

Big XII  Oklahoma vs Missouri:   The Sooners may be more explosive on offense than Florida right now.  Tigers should not be overlooked after their loss to Kansas last week.
Oklahoma 49-34

C-USA  East Carolina vs Tulsa:   The Pirates were September's BCS darlings but slumped.  Tulsa has great offense but I like the Pirates..East Carolina  37-35

MAC  Buffalo vs Ball State:  The Cardinals are unbeaten while Turner Gill should be getting some consideration for head coaching vacancies.  Buffalo was the worst DI team in the nation before he got the job.  They will not win the MAC this year but if Gill stays watch out..Ball State 35-24

USC at UCLA:   Remember in the preseason when UCLA ran those ads proclaiming that USC's domination of college football in LA-LA land was over.   Not this year... USC  54-14

Navy vs Army:  Paul Johnson may be gone but the Navy is still the better team..Navy 33-30
