ATHENS, GA (WALB) - Saturday's Georgia-Alabama game is not only a matchup of two top ten unbeaten teams.
It will also be a chess match between two coordinators who are former college teammates.
Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will be calling plays designed to score touchdowns on an Alabama defense run by defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.
Bobo and Smart were rivals in high school at Thomasville and Bainbridge.
Then they were roommates during the playing days at Georgia and today are close friends.
Neither coach spoke to each other for months leading up to last year's Georgia and Alabama game.
It is safe to assume that has been the case this year.
Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford says Georgia's offense has changed quite a bit since Kirby Smart was Georgia's running backs coach in 2005 but it should be an interesting battle between these two coaches.
Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford "Yea he does. They are good friends and kind of know what each other likes to do. It is a friendly rivalry. I think they have a good time with it."
Georgia goes for a 4th straight win over Alabama at 7:45 p.m. Saturday night at Sanford Stadium.
