ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new Senior Center for the Council on Aging is under development. Tuesday, Phoebe Putney Hospital CEO Joel Wernick transferred an entire city block to the SOWEGA council on Aging.

The land and some of the buildings will be used to build a headquarters dedicated to services for senior citizens.

"I'm excited about it," said Director Kay Hind.  "It is a wonderful thing for the whole area, not just for Albany and the Council on Aging, but this is something that will benefit people for years to come."

Some of the buildings will be torn down. The council on aging has been cramped in the current buildings where it operates in Albany.

Those buildings will be sold and the money used for the new senior center.
