VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Lowndes County K-9 unit placed first as a team in the United States Police K-9 National Field Trials in Raleigh, North Carolina last week.

Robert Bair, Terry Griffin, and Jeffery Payne placed fourth, eighth, and 17th overall out of more than 120 units.

Sergeant Leanne Bennett of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office placed third in agility. She says these competitions help them do their job better.

"We work very hard on a daily bases. We don't do this just for competition. Everything we do for competition relates to the streets and this training just makes us better to do our job for the community."

Last year, the Lowndes County K-9 team placed third in the national competition.
