ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany contractor kicked off his campaign for the Dougherty County Commission Saturday morning. Harry James is running for the District 5 seat left empty by the sudden death of Art Searles.
James has attended Dougherty county commission meetings for the past two years. He has also been meeting with community leaders, and says he will continue to do so to best represent the district.
His top issue is crime. "You know safety, police visibility, crime. And because the economy is down, crime is picking up. Street lights, problems with gangs," said James.
Transportation consultant Gloria Gaines and Albany Minister Henry Brown have also qualified to run in the special primary to fill Searles seat.
