ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A retiring state representative is recognized as this year's Friend of Darton College.

The award is given annually by the Darton College Foundation. This year went to Mitchell County Representative Richard Royal. During the luncheon, Royal was described as a leader in every sense of the word. He was called a supporter of public education and of Georgia's University System. Royal couldn't be at today's luncheon, so his wife accepted the award on his behalf.

"I just want to be sure that you know that he will always care about Darton College even though he will not be in the role he was for 25 years. He could not be here today because he had a previous commitment be please sure know he appreciates so much this award," said Marilyn Royal, Rep. Richard Royal's Wife.

Dr. Nancy Anson was also honored as a Woman of Worth and Angie Barber was given the Distinguished Alumni award.
