Prosecutors drop a sexual battery case against an Albany State University professor.

The decision came after a jury deadlocked 7 to 5 in favor of convicting Melvin Shelton last month. District Attorney Ken Hodges says he dropped the case because there are others that need the state's attention.

Shelton, an assistant math professor, was accused of improperly touching the female student in his office. Less than a week after the mistrial, the student who made the accusation was arrested in Thomasville and accused of stealing from a clothing store where she works.
