ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Crime Stoppers hosted its inaugural golf tournament Friday at Flint River Golf Course.

Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips to help solve crimes in the community, and if the tips lead to an arrest, the caller receives a reward.

The money raised at the tournament will be used to pay the tipsters.

"This is our primary fundraiser," said Tournament Chairman Jamie Knight. "It's brand new for Crime Stoppers; something that's amped up more so in the last 12 months. We've really gotten stronger; we're starting to get more tips which is exactly what we're out here for."

This year's tournament attracted about 40 players and a dozen corporate sponsors. Crime Stoppers hopes the annual event will get even more community support next year.
