DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - A happy homecoming at Albany's Marine Base Thursday night.

Four reservists from MCLB are now back home after an eight month deployment to Iraq.  The Marines were greeted with hugs and kisses from family and friends.

While in Iraq, the group helped coordinate for ground force operations.

Major Kerry Mengelkoch is the officer in charge of the group that just returned.  She says couldn't be prouder of all they accomplished in Iraq.

"I was very proud and excited for them when they left, and I can tell you that it's even better to be on the other side of it when they're coming back. Knowing that they've done a great job. I've heard nothing but good things about the work that our marines have done," said Major Kerry Mengelkoch, Detachment 2, 4th Supply Battalion.

Nancy Bryan's son just returned from his first deployment to Iraq.

"I just told him that I was going to have to hug him for a while cause there were at least 50, 75 people that have told me to give him a hug for them. So that was going to take a while. And he said that was alright, that he wasn't going anywhere," Bryan said.

One of the returning Marines, Lance Corporal Wesley Thornhill is from Tifton.  He told us the south Georgia heat can't compare with the temperatures in Iraq.  He says now that he's home, he'd like to continue training with the fire department and possibly go back to school.
