Valdosta - The number one ranked Valdosta State football team has to feel like Saturday's game with Ouachita Baptist is their season opener.
Saturday's game with the Tigers is the first in three weeks for the defending Division II national champions after last week's game at Southern Arkansas was postponed by Hurricane Ike.
While teams need a week off every now and then during a season, two weeks off can sometimes take a team out of its rhythm.
Head coach David Dean hopes whatever rust his team has accumulated over the last two weeks can come off quickly against a Ouachita Baptist team that has scored more than 40 points in their first two games.
David Dean said "We are still a young team. We only have got two games under our belt. The problem that we have got is that Ouachita Baptist has played two games since we have played a game. That is a little bit scary."
Linebacker Larry Dean said "We have really just tried to stay focused and bring intensity to each practice to stay focused. So, we can just anticipate the first game again."
Still no decision on when Valdosta State will make up last week's game at Southern Arkansas.
Kickoff against Ouachita Baptist is 7:00 p.m. Saturday night.
