ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Saws at Balfour Pole Company in Mitchell County are working overtime to keep up with the demand for utility poles created by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

Balfour worked all weekend stripping and drying trees to keep up with the demand. All of the dry poles on the lot have been shipped to treatment yards in the wake of the two storms. Before Hurricane Gustav there had been a surplus of poles in the market, not companies want everything Balfour can supply.

"We did ship Saturday and Sunday we probably shipped 25 truck loads that way. We've just about shipped everything that we had dry on the yard to our biggest treaters who are in Alabama and Mississippi," said Mike Jones, Balfour Pole Co. Vice President.

More trucks were leaving the yard Monday. Company officials expect production to remain high while the supplies are restocked.
