VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Southern Christian Leadership conference will hold its first state convention in Valdosta.
The S.C.L.C. advocates social, economic, and political justice through non-violent action.
With the theme, "Empowering communities through education and direct action", their inaugural convention will highlight topics ranging from voter registration to economic empowerment.
They hope the convention will help spread the message throughout the state.
"For the last three years we've been organizing the state unit and this is our statement vehicle to showcase the SCLS and the type of work that had been done and will be done in the future," says Georgia Chapter Reverend Samuel Mosteller.
Reverend Mosteller will be a guest speaker along with former Senator Leroy Johnson and S.C.L.C National President Charles Steele.
The conference will be held October 3-8 at the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel.
