Valdosta - The number one ranked Valdosta State football team will have to wait for another week to open Gulf South Conference play.
The Blazers game at Southern Arkansas Saturday night has been postponed due to uncertain weather conditions in the area due to Hurricane Ike.
Ike is expected to make landfall near Galveston, Texas late Friday or early Saturday and then turn north and travel through eastern Texas.
Valdosta State athletic director Herb Reinhard said " Due to the concern for safety and the very uncertain weather conditions associated with Hurricane Ike, the Valdosta State University football game with Southern Arkansas University, which was scheduled for Saturday night in Magnolia, Arkansas, has been postponed. The two institutions will work with the Gulf South Conference to try to identify a date late in the season when the game can be rescheduled.”
Valdosta State will host Ouachita Baptist next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
