ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The owner of an Albany auto dealership says he's almost to the point of greeting night time visitors with fire power. Around three o'clock Thursday morning, someone broke into this classic caprice at Lawson Auto Sales, on the corner of North Slappey and Broad Avenue.
You can see the man walking to the car in surveillance video. He apparently tried to saw off the steering wheel, which was locked with a club. He wasn't able to get away with the car, but left owner Jeff Lawson with repair work he'll have to pay for. What's interesting is that someone stole this very car one month ago.
Lawson says he's sick of being a repeat victim, and is considering waiting on criminals to show up so he can catch them in the act. He said, "I think all the dealers around here are pretty much getting to the point where we're ready to sit in offices with guns. I mean, it doesn't seem like anybody else seems to take the matter into their hands."
Lawson says they are offering a $500 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to arrest and conviction for any car break ins or thefts that occur on their lot.
