Valdosta State returns to action with two new players

September 10, 2008

Valdosta - It is back to work for the number one ranked Valdosta State football team.

The Blazers open Gulf South Conference play on the road Saturday night at Southern Arkansas.

The good news for Valdosta State head coach David Dean is he will have two more talented players on the field.

Receiver T.J. Williams has been cleared to play after transferring to VSU from Michigan State.

Linebacker DeMarcus Flangan, a junior college transfer, also became eligible to play this week.

Head coach David Dean says both players have the potential to make a big impact for the defending Division II national champions.

David Dean said "Anytime at this level you can add to your depth, that is going to be a plus. But I will expect in a week or so both guys will be in the starting blocks."

T.J. Williams said "Just to even around this type of program and this type of players. Great players and to get to go out and play with them. It is going to be very exciting.

DeMarcus Flanagan said "To be part of this national championship team. Trying to get this back to back. Can't wait to get started to be honest."

Since 2000, Valdosta State is 44-6 away from Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Saturday's game at Southern Arkansas kicks at 8:00 p.m..
