LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Some long-vacant positions in Lee County could remain empty for another year because of a projected budget shortfall in the county.

Lee County commissioners are considering implementing another hiring freeze on vacant positions in the Public Works, Tax Assessors and Planning and Engineering departments.

County Administrator Alan Ours recommends the freeze because preliminary estimates indicate a shortfall in the budget and the county is still unsure of what will happen with homestead exemptions in the state.

The freeze would save the county about $150,000.
