ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County School Board member David Maschke is questioning the credibility of his Democratic opponent after learning Dr. Richard Anson voted Republican in July.

After Maschke's Democratic opponent dropped out, retiring board member Richard Anson was quickly appointed by Democrats to run against Maschke for his board seat. Even though he's a declared Democratic candidate, Anson admitted Monday that he voted in the Republican primary in July.

He says he did it so he could vote against Maschke. "He's actually a thorn in the side of everyone. He asks minutiae from minutiae, reams of useless data, he has wasted more of our time as a board than actually saving us money," said Anson.

"I think it's just a question of, another example of the antics Anson and his cronies are using to try and remove me from the school board because I won't go along with their status quo voting record," said Maschke.

Maschke said Anson and some of the other board members don't like him because he won't rubber-stamp their proposals and sometimes embarrasses them by pointing out their mismanagement.
