The South Georgia Waves jump out to a six-run lead and then hold for their lives in the ninth inning to start an eight game road trip with a 6-4 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators.
The Waves got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Franklin Gutierrez led off with a doubled and came around to score on Jose Garcia's single.
Edwin Bellorin then drove in Thomari Story-Hardin to make it two nothing South Georgia.
The Waves scored two more in the third with Edwin Bellorin driving in his second run of the game with a bases loaded single.
Derek Mann and Franklin Gutierrez each drove in runs with singles in the sixth and eighth innings respectively.
The Intimidators made it interesting in the ninth when they scored four runs before Kole Strayhorn finally put out the rally to preserve the win for Edwin Jackson(5-2).
Jackson's victory ends a personal two game losing streak for the 18-year old righthander from Columbus.
Australian Leigh Neuage (0-2) will star the second game of the series Thrusday night against Kannapolis' Tim Bittner(5-11).
