ALBANY, GA (WALB) - In addition to Hanna, Hurricane Ike is now threatening Florida.

That means volunteers from our area could be called into action.

The Southwest Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross is ready to lend a hand.

Volunteers could man shelters or serve meals wherever Florida officials need their help.

The Red Cross says they definitely need more volunteers and more monetary donations.

"If they've been trained or they want to we have something we call spontaneous volunteers that show up and haven't had a lot of training and if not to go to Florida, just be a part efforts here in Albany," said Mari P. McEwen, American Red Cross Executive Director.

On Monday, the Red Cross will start calling volunteers to be ready to head to Florida if needed.
