Prescription Help is Here

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - There is a healthcare crisis in this country.  One part of that crisis is the trouble millions of people have paying for their prescription drugs. There are programs that help with those costs, even provide medications for free.

It's a statement we've probably all said at one time or another: "I have medication that is really expensive," said Samantha Williams.

She was riding down the road when she saw the Help Is Here Express in Albany, so she stopped and climbed on board.  She said, "It's very tough." Tough coming up with $700 each month to cover the cost of her prescriptions.

"I have to take it. I have to take my medicine." And so do millions of others, but they are often forced to choose between buying medication and putting food on the table, or paying bills.

"People often don't know how much help is available, or they don't know where to go to get that help," said Kate Michael, with Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

So help comes to them. The Help is Here Express travels the country, letting people know of about 475 different patient assistance programs that could cut their costs.

"It's not just how much money is left in the bank at the end of the month," Michael said. "It's that they're able to take the medicine they need to be strong and healthy."

"It's a help to everyone. You try and then that way you'll see whether or not you'll qualify. Just like me, I tried, so now I'm about to go forth with it." Samantha found four different programs that could help her get her prescriptions cheaper, so she can save some of that $700 each month.

The Help is Here express was only in Albany for today, but you can get help finding assistance programs by clicking here. Or you can call 1-888-4PPA-NOW.
