School reopens after gas leak

August 12, 2002

A South Georgia school reopens today after a gas leak.

Schley County Elementary School, near Ellaville, closed last Wednesday when 20 kids were sent to the hospital with headaches and nausea.

Authorities say methane gas was coming through a vent in a girl's bathroom.

Schley County Superintendent William Johnson says the system apparently had a temporary blockage, but now everything is back to normal.
