Lee County Middle School toilets back up on the first day of school, making most of the restrooms unusable.
The toilets stopped working just before lunch Friday. Contractors discovered that a clean-out in the sewer line had been run over by a large truck during construction of the new school. The clean-out was pushed down several feet into the main line, causing a back up.
Superintendent, Dr. Bill Lewis, says, "The first day we discover problems. There's really no way of finding the problem until you get 1200 kids in here and then they show up in a hurry."
A few kids were shuttled to a nearby school to use their bathrooms. Crews worked through the weekend to repair the problem. Dr. Lewis says construction crews did run cameras through the lines to check for any stoppage before school started, but this incident happened after.
