Athens - Georgia Southern head coach Chris Hatcher knew his young Eagles faced a tough challenge against the number one ranked Dogs.
Just two years ago Hatcher was roaming the sidelines at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium at Valdosta State.
Saturday he was coaching against the top ranked team in the country.
Hatcher was proud of the way his team fought and believed the Eagles could have scared the mighty Bulldogs had they taken advantage of some early Georgia mistakes.
He is also excited about the future for his young team this season and beyond.
Chris Hatcher said "These boys are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. They know. They knew what they we were getting themselves into today. They know we have a lot of inexperience. I was kind of hoping some of the battles would play out. We have got some good problems there. We have got several good players at each position."
Georgia Southern hosts Austin Peay next Saturday.
