Tigers lose freshman prospect

August 10, 2002

(Auburn-AP) -- Auburn freshman quarterback Brandon Cox has left the football team for personal reasons. Head Coach Tommy Tuberville said Saturday today that Cox left the team for family and personal reasons and hopes we will rejoin the team in the near future. Last year as a senior at Hewitt-Trussville High School, Cox passed for 2,887 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was named Alabama's Mister Football this year.

Cox became the third Mister Football to sign with the Tigers in Tuberville's four years. During his career, he completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 5,417 yards and 50 touchdowns. Cox had joined sophomore Jason Campbell and seniors Daniel Cobb and Jeff Klein in the Tigers' quarterback mix.
