You know second hand smoke can be dangerous to people. You may not realize it can also hurt your pets.

When you smoke around your dog or cat, they end up inhaling the fumes. Veterinarian, Dick Hydrick, says second hand smoke can make it hard for pets to breathe and can even cause respiratory problems such as asthma.

Hydrick says, "We do see households that have a lot of smoking going on that their dogs have a lot more respiratory problems."

If you do smoke around your pet, Dr. Hydrick says you may want to have your pet x-rayed to see if respiratory problems are developing.
