VSU holds sales tax holiday a week late

South Georgia students are outraged because their university bookstore closed on the tax-free holiday. Valdosta State University's bookstore was closed last Friday to upgrade computers.

But angry students showed up demanding service. To compensate for the closing, the bookstore offered students a 7 percent discount today.

"We didn't expect the number of complaints and unfortunately, most of them were angry because they thought they would get a better price on their textbooks," said Rob Kellner, auxiliary services director. "Actually, the textbooks were not even eligible for the sales tax exemption."

The discount only applied to items on the tax exempt list.
