VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A fiery crash in Lowndes County Thursday morning killed a Broxton man.

45 year-old Robert Arnold was driving a log truck South on Georgia 31 around 8:30 AM when he tried to pass a road grader that was turning left onto Waters Road.

The log truck flipped and burst into flames.

The grader driver, 64 year-old Willie Lane of Valdosta tried to free Arnold from the burning cab but was unable.

"From what we gather, he tried to use the grader to pull the truck up to try and rescue the man but the attempt failed," says Sgt. Brian Gay, Assistant Post Commander for the GSP in Valdosta.

Arnold was a driver with D-M-H trucking in Douglas.
