VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A popular community event in Valdosta has been canceled due to the state's current budget crisis.

Valdosta Technical College has announced they will not hold HarvestEd this year.

HarvestEd is an annual community fair held each fall on the college's campus.

Val Tech administrators have been asked to cut their budgets by up to 10% to help make up for a state-wide deficit.

They say cutting the event will keep them from cutting new programs.

"We have so many wonderful programs the community needs us to offer like hemodialysis, we have a culinary chef program starting up and to get those programs up and going you have to have equipment. It was a choice. Equipment of a festival for the community. With tight budgets you have to make a choice," says Angela Crance, VP of Economic Development at the college.

HarvestED was scheduled for October 25th.

They will spend the rest of the week notifying vendors.
