DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Thieves smashed through a wall at a Dougherty County convenience store overnight.

This is the back wall of the Quick Buys Convenience Store on Sylvester Road. Thieves slammed their way through the wall with a sledgehammer and got inside the walk-in cooler. There was extensive damage to bottled drinks and other contents inside that cooler.

Owners say the thieves even took their own garbage bags to haul off their loot. Store Owner Sudha Patel said "Three guys came inside, and they busted the register. They took lottery tickets, they got some phone cards, money."

Police found rolls of lottery tickets, the sledgehammer, and a gun behind the store.

Thieves attempted to break into another Sylvester Road convenience store about 3 hours earlier. They apparently tried to silence the alarm by cutting the phone lines, but that actually triggered the alarm and they ran.

Now Police are investigating to see if it was the same crooks involved.
