TIFT COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Investigators now confirm the weekend death of a Tift County man was a homicide. 52-year-old John Towns Jr was found lying in a pool of blood in his home by a co-worker Saturday morning.

The Tift County Sheriff and GBI investigators say it appears Towns was shot. His body was taken to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy. The motive for the murder is still unknown, but it appeared the killer broke into Towns' home by kicking in the front door.

"There is a couple of different possibilities, and we are trying to asses those. Tift County Investigators along with GBI agents worked hand-in-hand all weekend long to ascertain witnesses and get the interviews done with those witnesses," said Special Agent In-Charge, Mark Pro.

If you have any information about this case call the Tift County Sheriff's Office at 229-388-6020.
