Police officers armed with suckers

August 6, 2002

Moultrie Police are now armed with more than guns.

Uniformed officers are now required to carry red suckers in their patrol cars and their pockets.

The "Just Say No" suckers give police a chance to talk to kids and kids get a chance to meet men and women who protect the community. Moultrie Police Chief Mike Boyd says, "After a while, what we hope is to have a community where kids run to patrol cars wanting to talk to police officers, wanting to be near them to develop a good community relationship. Hopefully, it will last a lifetime."

Police say the red suckers are working. Kids seem to be less afraid of officers.
