ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority plans to buy downtown property for redevelopment.
ADICA Director Don Buie says the group is seeking $6 Million in bonds to buy vacant property downtown.
Negotiations are already underway with property owners. The plan is to bring residential developments to downtown and then hopefully more commercial investors.
Buie said, "It makes sense that people would want to live close to where they work. You have over 3,000 people working in downtown Albany. I would imagine that out of that 3,000, some of them would like to live downtown, eat downtown on a regular basis."
Acquisition of property is currently underway.
Buie expects to announce details on the property location and development plans in 45 to 60 days.
