Lady Blazer volleyball ready to rebound in 2008

August 14, 2008

Valdosta - College football teams aren't the only squads in preseason training.

The Valdosta State volleyball team opened practice this week.

Head coach Sia Poyer turned around the Lady Blazer program by taking them to the Gulf South Conference tournament two years ago.

Last year was a rebuilding year and it showed on the recoard with just ten wins and none of them were against conference opponents.

Even with eight returning players, the Lady Blazers will be young again in 2008.

But there coach believes they will be able to challenge for a spot in the conference tournament.

Coach Poyer knows accomplishing any other teams goals starts with making the Gulf South tourney.

Sia Poyer said "Of course winning the conference tournament. Get to the conference tournament and you have a chance to move on to the next level which is of course the NCAA tournament."

The VSU volleyball team opens the season on August 29th in a tournament at Francis Marion University in South Carolina.
