VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - It's an exhausting, emotional experience for Connie Woods.

"I'm very happy but I'll probably cry like a hyena tomorrow," Connie says.

She's watching her son, Drew, unpack and rearrange his dorm room.

"The more I'm here, the more I see it, it's like AHHHH," she exclaims.

But unlike his mom, this baseball recruit from Jacksonville, Florida says he's ready to start his freshman year at Valdosta State.

"I'm fine with it. I'm not worried about it. They're more worried than I am," Drew says.

And embrace the opportunities and changes that college brings.

While the Woods family is excited about the change, they take comfort in knowing a visit is just a short drive a way.

"I'm already making plans for him to forget something so he comes home next weekend," Connie says.

"If I need something I can go back. Or if I need my clothes washed, I can go back," Drew adds.

That is if Connie doesn't move in, too.  "I told him and his roommate I was going to bring my sleeping bag and sleep on the floor."

VSU Administrators estimate nearly12,000 students will enroll this year.
