Waves take three of four from 'Stixx

August 3, 2002

Columbus - The South Georgia Waves wrapped-up their eight-game road trip with a 3-1 win over the Columbus RedStixx in a South Atlantic League game at Golden Park Saturday night.

Jose Garcia belted a three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Waves (20-21/60-05) a 3-1 lead and provide the final margin. It was Garcia's first homer since May 25 and 221 at-bats.

The Waves took three out of four in the series and 10 of 15 against Columbus (23-17/61-49) in the season series.

Jonathan Figueroa (2-0) highlighted an all-around solid pitching performance form a foursome of Waves' arms. Figueroa struckout nine and allowed only one hit and the Columbus run in five complete innings to earn his second win in three starts since earning a promotion from the Pioneer League. Eric Hull, Thom Ott and Kole Strayhorn shutdown the 'Stixx down the stretch, Strayhorn earning the save - his second of the season and of the series.

South Georgia begins an eight-game homestand Tuesday at 7:05 at Paul Eames Park in Albany against the Charleston, WV Alley Cats.
