Area stores are selling out fast

August 3, 2002

by Jocelyn Maner

People rushed to area stores in droves to enjoy the final day of Georgia's tax free holiday. Many stores are having a hard time keeping certain items in stock.

Managers and employees at Wal-mart say items like school supplies, televisions and appliances have been selling very well, making it hard to keep these items on the shelves.

The tax free items are going the fastest. Don't forget, you have until midnight tonight to take advantage the tax free holiday.

The Department of Revenue estimated the tax-free days will cost the state between 11-million dollars and 15-million dollars.

No figures are available for the previous two-day tax break in March.
