A Southwest Georgia Pastor and parent activist is running for a seat on the Dougherty County School Board. Pastor John Swan is seeking the District 3 seat vacated by the death of Christine Blaylock.
Swan is the president of the Dougherty County Parent Group. He says students don't understand what they are being taught, and it's important teachers have what they need.
"We need to make sure the teachers are provided with the proper material to instruct the children," Swan said.
This is Swan's first race for a position on the Dougherty County School Board. The Center for Children and Education in Macon and the Dougherty County Parent group are supporting Swan. The special election is set for August 20th.
Newscenter 10 will cover the elections, and the vote counts will be posted on walb.com.
