Four Darton softball players earn four year offers

August 7, 2008

Albany - Darton College honored four of their players who are moving on to four-year schools.

Sophomore pitcher Britni McCall is headed to Columbus State.

Freshman outfielder Heather Crews signed with West Georgia.

Freshmen Cali Lovett and Hannah Layton will remain teammates next spring at Reinhardt College.

McCall was Darton's top pitcher with 11-5 record and 1.86 earned run average.

Bainbridge High product Heather Crews was Darton's second leading hitter with .449 batting average.

Layton batted .413 with six homeruns and Lovett had a .356 batting average.

Head coach David Dews hates to lose such talented players but is glad they are getting their chance at the next level.

Dews said "There is no doubt they grew and we grew as a team from the fall to the spring. They had that natural ability and good athleticism."

Dews says shortstop Tatiana Zhuchkova has been picked for Russian national team and will not be returning to the Lady Cavs.

Zhuchova was Darton's top hitter at .459.

Darton softball team will begin fall practice on Monday.
