ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Preparing for a new school year can be painful for students especially those who are not ready to head back. But it was a tear jerker for some Albany children Saturday.

The Dougherty County Health department held its back-to-school immunization clinic. Parents who attended where able to get the necessary shots for their child before school starts next week.

Last year new immunization requirements were added for children going into the sixth grade or those entering school for the first time.

"It is very important for every child to have these shots because it's a requirement. Without these vaccines, they can not attend school without religious or medical exemption forms on file," said Immunization Coordinator, Suzette Profit.

"I think she did wonderful. A few tears here and there, but she had to get four shots. So I think she did wonderful," said parent, Alana Auguste.
