ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Students all over South Georgia are preparing to go back to school. Wednesday in Albany, book bags loaded with school supplies were given out at the United Way.

It was a partnership between the United Way, U-Save it pharmacy and other retailers. Rising 4th grader Catherine Williams says she's glad she won't have to lift all those heavy books. She said, "I don't have to pick up my own books." Alicia Jackson said, "We get so many calls year to year from parents who cannot afford to buy the necessary school supplies for their kids, so this is what prompted United Ways to do this back to school giveaway, so it makes us feel good to help some kid, somewhere."

This is the first time the United Way has done a school supply giveaway. 135 book bags were given away.
