ALBANY, GA (WALB) - History was made at an American Legion Post in Albany Monday night.

For the first time, a woman was installed as post commander. Sonjia Lewis is affectionately called K-Kaye.

Lewis joined American Legion Post 512 fifteen years ago to network with fellow veterans. She worked her way up the executive board and is now the first female commander of American Legion Post 512.

Lewis says she wants to make a difference.

"I plan on it. I've done it thus far coming up the ranks so I plan to continue in the footsteps that have been set before me," said Lewis.

Lewis says she's ready to jump into the historic role and hopes to make past and future leaders proud.
