Norman's British Open play gives boost to MacGregor

Albany - Almost every golf fan was cheering for 53-year old Greg Norman to win the British Open last week.

Among those rooting were employees of MacGregor Golf Company here in Albany.

Greg Norman has a big share of ownership in the company and the clubs he plays are made at the company plant in Albany.

Norman did not win his third place finish was boost to his game after a long layoff.

It qualifies him to play in the PGA Championship next month and the Masters and United States Open next year.

It was also boost to the company with shots of Norman and wife Chris Evert wearing MacGregor golf hats on television television.

The exposure has helped sales with his golf company in Albany.

MacGregor president Reid Gorman said "Being in a seasonal business, we kind of moving out of season at the point. For something like that to happen was certainly a great thing."

 Gorman invites golfers to come by and check out the MacGregor testing facility at the Albany plant and to learn more about the golf clubs they are making.

Greg Norman is playing in the Senior British Open where he is eight shots off the lead.
