Americus - When Georgia Southwestern left the NAIA to join the Peach Belt Conference and become an NCAA member at the Division II level, the Hurricanes knew the move would take time.
The patience is about to pay off.
Georgia Southwestern has a conference call with the NCAA on Wednesday.
During that call, GSW officials hope to hear they are officially members of the NCAA.
Georgia Southwestern has been a provisional member since joining the Peach Belt Conference in 2006.
During that time, GSW has been working to bring their athletic department to meet NCAA guidelines. T
he process usually takes four years but the NCAA has streamlined the process where it normally takes three.
Becoming full members of the NCAA means GSW sports teams will be eligible for NCAA and Peach Belt Conference championship tournaments.
