ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One man is dead Saturday night after leading deputies on a chase through two South Georgia counties.

It started in Miller County. Deputies there started following the red vehicle on Johnny Freeman Road at around 10:00 PM because of a drug transaction.

The chase ended in Baker County when the driver, Leroy Walters Jr, lost control at the intersection of County Line Road and Highway 253.

Authorities say Walters was alert and walking at the scene, but later collapsed and died there. His body has been taken to a crime lab for an autopsy. His passenger Jennifer Williams was not hurt and has since been released.

Officers did find several bags of what appeared to be crack cocaine and one bag of what appeared to be marijuana. The accident is now being investigated by Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team.
