Valdosta - Fans in Valdosta are naturally very excited hometown hero J.D. Drew is the Most Valuable Player at Tuesday's All-Star game at Yankee Stadium.
It is another big honor for Drew who of course got a world series win with Boston last October.
Drew won the MVP award in his first ever appearance in the game which came in his 11th major league season.
J.D. Drew was a star at Lowndes High and works out from time to time at the school's indoor batting cages in the offseason.
Lowndes coach Danny Redshaw says despite all the big league fame, J.D. Drew remains a very humble young man who is one of the most popular major league players in the area.
Danny Redshaw said "Kids that are 5,6,7,8 and 12 years old playing little league and travel ball. They are, they have got their Drew jerseys. It has been a big impact on high school baseball as well as youth baseball around here."
Danny Redshaw also coached J.D. Drew's younger brothers Tim and Stephen Drew at Lowndes High School.
